1967 Austin Mini Cooper S 1275 Mk1
Ex Essex Police Car
A late Mk1 Cooper S, ordered new by the Essex Police. Being a police car it was originally monotone white but since has had the roof painted black. A basic trim level for the police cars so standard red seats rather than the brocade style. Calibrated speedometer and 4.5” wheels.
This little Mini has been sitting in a garage for the best part of thirty years.
“There still out there!”
The car is a barn find requiring full restoration.
We purchased the car a few months ago and since then have tinkered around with it, the car now runs.
Mechanically the engine runs well with good oil pressure. It’s the original 1275cc S engine. Tappet chest covers, 1275cc plate in place. Hardy Spicer drive shafts etc.
Clutch is stuck and exhaust has a big hole so we have not been able to drive the car Plus one front brake calliper has been removed am told this is what took the car off the road 35 years ago!
Calliper and other parts are with the car.
Bodywork isn’t that bad. Obviously sold as a full restoration project. Doors open and close nicely. Some rust on the A post and other bits and pieces but certainly no basket case.
Interior. Appears to be all there but is very age worn. Possibly the seats and carpets may clean and restore. It comes with a set of Very good Mk2 red seats. The important parts are all there items such as the speedometer and other scarce features.
The car comes with a small history file including old logbooks and early M.O.T’s from what I can find it has only had 5 previous owners the last 2 being husband and wife.
Heritage certificate, an early heritage certificate which shows the body number. Original body number is still in place on the car.
Genuine Mk1 Cooper S with interesting history. This will be a fantastic car once restored.
Any inspection is welcome and encouraged
